Packs in a 1.3 mp front camera, 1.5 GHz CPU, Wi-Fi, 3G via external dongle, 1080p playback with HDMI-Out, USB OTG (use external pen drives), and support for 14 Indian languages.
Wishtel has announced the the IRA Thing 2 tablet, which runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and is powered by a 1.5 GHz CPU with 512 MB of RAM. This is a welcome change, after it had earlier launched two slates with older OS versions and an underpowered (800 MHz) CPU. The new device has a 7" capacitive, multi-touch display with pixel dimensions of 800x480. It ships with 4 GB of internal storage, expandable up to 32 GB via microSD. The Thing 2 sports dimensions of 7.6" (l) x 4.8" (w) x 0.4" (11 mm) (d), and tips the scales at a comfortable 400 grammes. The gadget is capable of playing 1080p content, and can even take it to the big screen via the provided HDMI-Out port. USB OTG (On-The-Go) functionality is also present, allowing you to connect various peripherals, including USB storage drives and 3G dongles for internet access (the list of supported devices has been provided at the bottom of its product page). Onboard connectivity is taken care of by Wi-Fi. A 1.3 mp front camera for video chats rounds off the list.
On the software front, the Thing 2 includes support for 14 major Indian languages. It also has a TV app with access to over 120 channels, and an e-news app that can access over 55 newspapers. The tablet comes in black, red, yellow, pink, blue, and white, and will soon be available in over 50 major cities across the country at an MRP of Rs 6500. Just don't expect it to transform into an abomination of some sort.
