Penta T-Pad WS703C tablet launched @ Rs 6,999

Pantel Technologies has announced the launch of India's first 2G SIM Slot Tablet PC, the Penta T-Pad WS703C, today.

Present at the announcement was the Minister of HRD, Telecom and IT, Govt of India, Kapil Sibal, launching India's first Voice call based tablet PC with 3D enabled capacitive touch screen, the Penta T-Pad WS703C today. Penta T-Pad WS703C comes with TF card expansion slot, voice call feature, 7-inch 3D-enabled capacitive touch screen, front and rear cameras and HDMI ports.

The all-new Penta T-Pad WS703C is priced at Rs 6,999 and features 4GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM. It runs on a 1.2GHz Cortex A8 processor, has an in-built 2G sim card slot and is also compatible with 3G dongles. The 'all-port' architecture on this model includes features like dual camera, HDMI port and mini-USB port.

Android Based Smart Box launched by AKAI for India at Rs 6,590

New Delhi: Japanese consumer electronics firm Akai launched a 'Smart Box', which allows users to surf Internet on their television sets, at a price of Rs 6,590 in the country.

The company, which is targeting revenues of Rs 250 crore this fiscal, expects sales of one lakh devices in the next 3-4 months.

"Our Smart box is set to change the way people watch television in India. TVs, irrespective of whether it's a colour TV or LCDs and LEDs, are compatible with the device and using Smart Box can be converted into a smart television," Akai Managing Director Pranay Dhabhai told PTI.

The Android-based device, powered by a 1.25-Ghz processor, comes with a wireless mouse for navigation. It is equipped with 4GB internal memory, expandable upto 32GB through SD card slot

Samsung Ordered to Pay $1 billion to apple over lawsuit

Apple won a decisive victory on Friday in a lawsuit against Samsung, a verdict that will give Apple ammunition in a far-flung patent war with its global competitors in the smartphone business.

The nine jurors in the case, who faced the daunting task of answering more than 700 questions on sometimes highly technical matters, returned a verdict after just three days of deliberations at a federal courthouse in San Jose, California.

They found that Samsung infringed on a series of Apple’s patents on mobile devices, awarding Apple more than $1 billion in damages.

That is not a big financial blow to Samsung, one of the world’s largest electronics companies. But the decision could essentially force it and other smartphone makers to redesign their products to be less Apple-like, or risk further legal defeats.

Nude wallpaper Apps infect of Android devices with Malware

Thousands of Android devices are thought to have been infected by a strain of Chinese Malware which sends costly SMS messages to earn cash for its creators.

Some reports have claimed that over 500,000 Android devices are infected with the malware, which is detected by Sophos's free Android anti-virus as Andr/SMSZomb-A.

Users are tricked into believing that they are installing GIF wallpaper onto their Android device, and a provocative message is shown suggesting that a secondary app is installed that would allow permanent use of the images.

Sony Xperia P to get ICS upgrade from Aug 19

New Delhi: The much awaited Android Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for Xperia P smartphone will be rolled out between 19 and 25 August, the electronics giant has announced through its Facebook account.

Notably, Sony had earlier announced the roll out of the Android Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for its Xperia P smartphone in the second week of August itself.

Sony Mobile has also officially confirmed that the ICS upgrade for the Xperia S will be arriving later this month and not any later than that.

Beware of Malicious Olympic 2012 Android Apps

When the Summer Olympics roll around, you can count on some intense competition in key events like gymnastics. But for 2012, the action isn't just on the mat. It seems that distributing and battling malware and phishing efforts disguised as Olympics apps and info are practically an exhibition sport this summer.

An app called "London Olympics Widget" seems harmless enough, but according to Webroot's security blog, it actually rifles through your contacts, device info, and text messages.

It's no longer available via the Google Play store, but it's still listed on an Australian site aggregatingAndroid apps, where there are plenty of the telltale signs of skeezy code, including this odd Gmail contact address and English grammar that's not quite right:

Other bits of evidence suggest the app isn't what it appears to be: it's digitally signed from New Delhi, and its own screenshots reveal that, well, it's a pretty lame-looking widget.

BlackBerry, Android users targeted by new Zeus trojan

Kaspersky Lab researchers say they have detected five new variants of a mobile trojan known as ZitMo, and four of them target BlackBerry devices, which typically have gone untouched by hackers

ZitMo, which stands for "Zeus in the mobile," first appeared roughly two years ago. It is designed to steal mobile transaction authentication numbers (mTANs), or one-time passwords, that some banks, mostly in Europe, send via SMS message to mobile users as an additional layer of security.

In the past, the malware has posed as a legitimate banking security application. Once installed, the bogus app intercepts all incoming SMS messages and forwards them to a remote server.

The latest samples are targeting users in Germany, Spain and Italy, said Denis Maslennikov, a Kaspersky senior malware analyst, in a blog postTuesday.

The BlackBerry samples are masqueraded as .cod and .jar files, while the Android strain hides itself as a security app, he said.

Free Android apps could hijack your phone

Those annoying pop-up ads are back. This time, they're on your smartphone, and they're badder than ever. Here's how you can avoid aggressive adware on your mobile device

Downloading free Android apps could make you vulnerable to aggressive adware, according to San Francisco-based security firm Lookout.

In fact, as much as five percent of those free apps have spammy ads that may be parceling out your information to third parties according to CTO Kevin Mahaffey.

That number may seem small at first, but not after you consider how many hundreds of millions of times those free apps are downloaded. To combat the problem, Lookout has developed its own app that scans other apps to tells you which ones are engaging in bad behavior. It's up to you to delete the offender(s).

The Android platform is the Wild West, and the good, the bad and the ugly are all present in abundance. The good, of course, is some seriously creative app development and an open platform that allows for some very cool innovation.
