Penta T-Pad WS703C tablet launched @ Rs 6,999

Pantel Technologies has announced the launch of India's first 2G SIM Slot Tablet PC, the Penta T-Pad WS703C, today.

Present at the announcement was the Minister of HRD, Telecom and IT, Govt of India, Kapil Sibal, launching India's first Voice call based tablet PC with 3D enabled capacitive touch screen, the Penta T-Pad WS703C today. Penta T-Pad WS703C comes with TF card expansion slot, voice call feature, 7-inch 3D-enabled capacitive touch screen, front and rear cameras and HDMI ports.

The all-new Penta T-Pad WS703C is priced at Rs 6,999 and features 4GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM. It runs on a 1.2GHz Cortex A8 processor, has an in-built 2G sim card slot and is also compatible with 3G dongles. The 'all-port' architecture on this model includes features like dual camera, HDMI port and mini-USB port.

Post office to launch mobile remittance scheme in tie up with BSNL

Postal Department is launching an instant money remittance scheme, mobile remittance scheme, in tie-up with the BSNL infrastructure by next month, Chief Postmaster General (Kerala Circle) Sobha Koshy said today.

In the first phase the scheme will be implemented in selected states like Kerala, Bihar, New Delhi and Punjab, Koshy told reporters after releasing a special postal cover in connection with the ruby jubilee celebrations of Kottayam Press Club.

In Kerala the scheme will be implemented in selected 30 post offices in Idukki, Aluva and Pathanamthitta. As per the scheme a person can send money through the post office which will send a message to the other post office about the amount to be given to the other person, she said.

Koshy said the process of computerizing the entire postal network in the country, numbering 1,55,000 post offices, was going on.

In Kerala out of 1507 post offices, except 29 post offices rest are computerized. The department is also planning to implement a range of products including e-post facility instead of letter, electronic money order scheme by which up to Rs. 5,000 will be sent with a small message, M O Videsh and pick-up service

Tablet review: BSNL Penta Tpad WS802C

New Delhi: Public sector telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) had some time back introduced three low cost tablets in India. Manufactured by Noida based Pantel Technologies, the tablets fall in the Rs 3,000-Rs 14,000 price bracket.

We have already done a first hand review of the cheapest BSNL tablet - Penta IS701R. During our first few hours with the costliest BSNL tablet, Penta Tpad WS802C, we liked the device and thought it good value for money.

We further upped the bar during a month long intensive review process to find out its metal and here's how the BSNL Penta Tpad WS802C fared:

Look and feel

The tablet looks decent in its pure white colour. The plastic body does not inspire much confidence and its slippery surface further makes things worse. So you have to be very careful while handling this 8 inch tablet. Further, there is unnecessary space around the display, which makes it look a lot bigger and you feel like you are handling a 10 inch tablet.

Nonetheless, BSNL and Pantel have provided a number of buttons at convenient positions on the Penta Tpad WS802C. All the ports - 3.5 mm jack, USB, HDMI, reset button, OTG and charging port - are at the lower part of the tablet; the SD card slot, volume rocker and on/off button are on the lower right side while on the left, there is the SIM slot.

There are two speakers on the top back side. You will find the front camera along with four capacitive buttons at the bottom of the display.
