Raj Thackeray's children lodge Complaint to police over facebook fake account

MNS chief Raj Thackrey's children have filed a complaint with the Maharashtra cyber cell over fake Facebook and Twitter accounts in their names. Raj's son and daughter have asked the police to try and block these accounts and clarified that they have no accounts on social media websites.

Raj's children have also requested people to not fall for such a trap and send friend requests. In yet another case emerging from Palghar town in the district, police have received a complaint about some "objectionable" matter relating to late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray posted on a "fake" Facebook account of a local newspaper. Mohammed Hussain Nadi Sarwar Khan (30), editor of 'Palghar Mirror', a fortnightly newspaper in Hindi and Marathi, complained that a fake Facebook account had been opened in his newspaper's name and objectionable photo and comments were posted against Thackeray.

"Last night, I was told that objectionable comments and photo were posted against Thackeray in my Palghar Mirror account on Facebook. When I saw it, I realised that my original account was not used but the hacker created another account in my newspaper's name. At about 3.30 am, I went to the police station and gave a written complaint," Khan said. But now, the fake account could not be seen as it appears to have been deactivated by the hacker, Hussain added.

"We have received an application mentioning about the objectionable comments and photo against Thackeray on fake Facebook account. We are inquiring into the matter," an officer at Palghar police station said. This is the second complaint at the police station involving "objectionable" content against Bal Thackeray.

Earlier, two girls were arrested after they had criticised in a Facebook post the November 18 shutdown due to Bal Thackeray's funeral. The two were later granted bail after they were remanded in 14-day judicial custody.  With additional information from PTI

cartoonist arrest over cybercrime charges on him

Award-winning political cartoonist and anti-corruption and Internet freedom crusader Aseem Trivedi (25) was remanded in police custody till September 16 by a holiday court in Bandra on Sunday. He was arrested on Saturday night on charges of sedition, cybercrime, and insulting the national flag, Parliament and the Constitution through his work.

Additional police commissioner (west region) Vishwas Nangre Patil told The Hindu that the complaint against Mr. Trivedi was filed after the India Against Corruption (IAC) agitation at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) grounds at Bandra Kurla Complex, which started on December 27.

Mr. Trivedi’s ‘Cartoons Against Corruption’ website was banned by the Mumbai police then. Months later, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him. On August 30, a team of the Mumbai Police went to his home at Shuklaganj in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district to execute the warrant, but found he was out of station. The team then questioned Mr. Trivedi’s father, Ashok, for four hours. Later, it asked the Shuklaganj police to speak to Mr. Trivedi and ask him to surrender in Mumbai.
