GURGAON: After launching Gurgaon police pages on Facebook and Twitter, Gurgaon police commissioner launched a WhatsApp messenger service on Monday as part of the Citizen Connect initiative.
Mittal said that the launch is an attempt to bring greater transparency in police's relationship with the residents. "The new service will strengthen Gurgaon Police's existing social presence across Facebook and Twitter," Mittal said.
Police said that they believe that the number of WhatsApp users are much higher than people using Facebook or Twitter, so it will help to directly connect with more people. "By saving the number +91-8586976050 on their smartphones, residents can send messages, upload pictures and videos through WhatsApp to report corruption across government departments, harassment by any government officer, cases of crime and illegal activities."
"The sole motto of this initiative is to ensure that we are just a click away from people and they can easily reach us. This messenger will keep us constantly available to our citizens and ensure that they have no hassle in reaching us", said Mittal.
He added that traffic-related complaints, including cases of overcharging or misbehavior by auto drivers, or any other problems can also be sent through the messaging service. "Residents can send details as issue, place, date and time, with a photograph or short video clip along with their personal details like name, address, contact number," said Mittal.
A special police team will review all incoming messages and ensure prompt action against serious complaints especially cases of corruption reported with evidence. Wherever necessary, details of the complainant will be kept confidential.http:// timesofindia.indiatimes.com/
