HYDERABAD: Cyber crime sleuths of the CID have arrested a 27-year-old US-based software engineer for harassing his female colleague by creating fake profiles on social networking sites and sending abusive content to her friends.
Police on Monday morning arrested Sai Kumarof Ram Nagar, a software engineer with an MNC at Hi-Tec City in Madhapur and based in the US, when he landed at the RGI Airport.
On June 20, the 27-year-old victim, who is a colleague of Sai Kumar, lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police alleging that someone had hacked her email account and sent mails with obscene content to all her friends and family members. She also alleged that her fake profiles were created on social networking sites and abusive and obscene content was circulated through them.
Based on her complaint, police registered a case (Crime No 56/2012) under sections 66 A, D and 67 of the IT Act, 2000.
During preliminary probe, police contacted several internet service providers and based on the information provided by them, they zeroed in the culprit, who was sending mails through multiple proxy servers to avoid being detected by law enforcement agencies.
However, using advanced tracking tools, the cyber crime sleuths managed to identify Sai Kumar as the culprit. Since Sai Kumar was working in the USA when the police zeroed in on him they made the complainant to talk to him normally and found out that he would be arriving in the city on October 8.
On Monday morning, a team of cyber crime sleuths headed by inspector Shiva Kumar arrested Sai Kumar at the Shamshabad airport when he arrived from the US.
During interrogation, he confessed that he fell in love with the victim while they were working together in Hyderabad. Subsequently, he proposed to her, but she politely refused. Later, they worked in the US together for a few months and during that time, Sai Kumar had threatened to kill himself if she refuses to marry him. However, she did not make amends even after that and returned to India.
Bearing a grudge against her for repeatedly refusing his proposal, Sai Kumar stole her email and social networking account login details using snooping software and started sending obscene content to all her friends. Police seized the laptop and the mobile phone he used in committing the offence. He was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.Source-TOI
